About this course
Model, texture, light, render and animate in Blender, closing with a portfolio-ready rendered scene.
This is a 6-week short course - enough depth to build real projects and a portfolio piece, without a long commitment. It runs online in the August 2026 cohort (starting 1 August 2026) and is taught the EchoLens way: you learn by doing real, gradeable work rather than just watching lectures.

What you will learn

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- CLO 1. Model clean, non-destructive 3D geometry in Blender using primitives, mesh editing, and modifiers.
- CLO 2. UV unwrap and texture a model with PBR materials, then light and compose it for a professional render.
- CLO 3. Animate an object with keyframes and interpolation, and export a finished, portfolio-ready render.
Course outline - level by level
12 leveles, each with hands-on quests you clear in the portal.
- Level 1. Introduction to 3D and the interface - The 3D pipeline, interface tour, viewport shading modes, navigation and scene setup
- Level 2. Basic objects and transform tools - Adding primitives, the 3D cursor, move/rotate/scale, object origin and snapping
- Level 3. Edit mode and mesh editing basics - Vertices, edges and faces, extrude/inset/bevel/loop cut/subdivide/merge, normals and face orientation
- Level 4. Modifiers I: Mirror and Subdivision Surface - Non-destructive modeling philosophy, the Mirror modifier, Subdivision Surface and edge creasing
- Level 5. Modifiers II: Solidify and Screw - Solidify for thickness, Screw for lathed geometry, where each modifier fits in a real model
- Level 6. Modifiers III: Array and Boolean - Array for repeating geometry, Boolean union/difference/intersect, cleanup after booleans
- Level 7. Organic modeling and curves - Topology for organic surfaces, Shrinkwrap and proportional editing, Bezier curves and curve-to-mesh conversion
- Level 8. UV unwrapping fundamentals - Why UVs matter, placing seams, Smart UV Project / Unwrap / Follow Active Quads, checking results in the UV editor
- Level 9. Texturing and PBR materials basics - PBR base colour/roughness/metallic/normal/height, sourcing and applying image textures, preview vs rendered view
- Level 10. Lighting fundamentals - Light types, three point lighting (key/fill/rim), environment and HDRI lighting, colour and mood
- Level 11. Cameras, composition, and rendering - Focal length and depth of field, composition (rule of thirds, leading lines), Eevee vs Cycles, render settings
- Level 12. Animation basics and final project - The timeline and keyframes, animating location/rotation/scale, interpolation, parenting and exporting
How you submit: Quests submitted as PDF or image exports - multiple files per submission.
Your production end project
A Rendered 3D Product Scene with Animation
One polished, lit, textured 3D scene with a short animation, the reel piece that wins 3D freelance work.
Combine everything from the six weeks into one finished piece: a modelled object or small scene, properly UV unwrapped and textured with PBR materials, lit for mood, composed through a camera, and finished with a short animation and a final render. Most students build a product visualisation, the exact deliverable clients pay for.

- ✓PBR materials with at least one image texture and one normal map
- ✓A deliberate lighting setup, three point or HDRI, that sets a mood

- ✓A final still render and a rendered animation exported in a shareable format
- ✓Consistent quality that looks intentional, not accidental
Shipped when: The still render looks like a finished product shot, the animation plays smoothly, the textures sit right with no stretching, and the piece is good enough to post on a portfolio or a reel.
Who it's for
3D Modeling, Rendering and Introductory Animation suits learners at a beginner to intermediate level who want a practical, project-based route into 3D Modeling. You need only a browser and an internet connection - all coding runs inside the EchoLens compiler, so there is nothing to set up.
